Any good Go Youtube channels you could share?

Post by Anzu »

Good day

Are there any educational Go channels on Youtube?

I tried studying tsumego, joseki and professional games, but it's all so dry and dull!

I have a lot of free time, so post what you have, and I'll try everything (even if it's above my level)

Some of my favorites have already been posted. To that I would like to add

Longstride (5d player livestreaming his games, like Haylee): https://www.youtube.com/user/longstridebaduk

Sunday Go Lessons (some original content by Jonathan Hop (yithril here), but I particularly enjoy his subtitled streams of Japanese televised commentary): https://www.youtube.com/user/sundaygolessons

Neither is really my cup of tea, but probably the two most well-known video creators after Haylee are Dwyrin (https://www.youtube.com/user/dwyrin) and Nick Sibicky (https://www.youtube.com/user/nicksibicky).

I think you can learn a lot from watching strong players play live while verbalizing their thoughts, especially if you actively think about the game yourself. It is really valuable to see what the instincts of a strong player are - what moves, areas, and sequences they consider, and what they discard.

2nd vote for Sibicky. Somewhat long videos but VERY helpful!

I like to watch commented games from Japanese TV tournaments:

Tomoharu Narita: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQZyKf ... kR5veznHaQ

Eros Brown: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYeX5w ... yOFz9Fzd1A

These are in Japanese but if you pay attention to the games you can learn from the comments, and it is fun to watch the body language of the players.

Brady's is the most sympathetic to watch but as a 1d I definitely learnt a lot from Batt's somewhat cocky channel.

I'm a 22 kyu, so I usually watch channels aiming for double digit kyus:

Jim Plays Go: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiC-U0LlProVXHgJsSXhQ8w
Definitely tailored for double digit kyus. His games and lectures are much more understandable by me than other channels.

Nick Sibicky: https://www.youtube.com/user/nicksibicky
Charming and excellent Go instructor stationed at the Seattle Go Center. His content aims more towards 10-1 kyus, I would say. I still watch his videos for his humorous and informing lectures.

Dwyrin: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCYMY6j5mUvPMPzvN5bxuKA
A twitch streamer who posts his live-stream recordings on youtube. His stuff is pretty advanced for me, but I enjoy watching regardless.
