aka "Honeymoon Hearts" Pinockle also has a couple two player variants, one conceptually sort of like honeymoon hearts and one very different. But the pinockle family games intended for two would be better.

I played Hanabi (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/98778/hanabi) with a friend, and it seemed quite interesting. It is cooperative, not competitive, and either requires a special deck or two decks of regular cards + some complexity.

My wife and I are big Tichu fans, so when I looked up Haggis and saw that it was a Tichu-like game for 2 players, I had to give it a try. We have only played one game so far but really enjoyed it, so thanks for the tip!
