Is Yu Bin still the head coach of the Chinese weiqi team? Perhaps all that contact and training with the top young players also keeps him sharp. He won the 4th LG cup back in 2000 and the Asian TV cup in 2004 and 1997.

I've heard a few times on Chinese pro game commentaries, how Yu Bin is the (only) late bloomer.

along with saying how the Chinese city A league is getting younger and younger, how shocking it is that Gu Li at 33 is now an oldie (the oldest player there)

Ida had to resign after only 94 moves. He lost a big clump of stones.

Ke Jie's game was rather weird: it's like he said "komi is big, I win, let's start the yose" at move 60.

KJ certainly didn't give Donghoon much of a chance in that game; very well played.

Tan Xiao just won, same for Park Junghwan. No surprise so far. And Tang always seems to perform well here, beating Nongshim Cup star Fan Tingyu to advance.

Bad day for Korea. Only 2 games left, and only Park JH has won so far.

It has been the trend for Korea this year in international tournaments: Park and Shin and nobody else.

not really... 5-3 is expected. It would be a bad day for China if China lost more than that.

EDIT:

Wow, nice comeback by Fan yunruo! Especially that tesuji at the end! wow! (or maybe shin jinseo played a spoon)

Well, 6-2 is the final result.

It seems like Fan Yuruo catches Shin in surprise in the end with a L&D? It's hard to believe that such a thing can happen in a top pro game.

It's not seki, half of W group is dead.

Edit: But if W connects at S14 instead of S15 for the last W move, I don't see what could B really do there?

yeah, i'm dumb.

I think if w connects, black gets a few extra points because w has to take black stones, right? But from what I can see, white would still win by 0.5 after playing it out on the board.

I've played it out. And it seems that if Shin needs to take 2 more moves to answer that group, he would lose by 0.5 (I use Japanese counting, komi 6.5). Probably that's why he did that to resign? Pro certainly can't mess up this L&D.
