Is there a place to find pro videos with English subtitles?

Is there a place to find pro videos with English subtitles?

Post by TofuPython »

Recently I've watched several videos where Cho Chikun was either playing or commentating, and they were a blast to watch. Is there a place where I can find translated videos in abundance?

Good quality translation is a lot of work.
We're very lucky:

Thanks for the video! That was actually one of the Cho Chikun videos that I had seen. So fun to watch! The only ones with translations that I was able to find were from that tournament.

The best resouce is GoGameGuru 's baduktv service ... but GGG are currently not communicating online so might be going through a rough patch. If online subscription works they already have a huge number of subbed pro games - if you dont mind paying for it.

Edit: & theres a risk their BadukTv service is no longer running properly anymore.

If you have a particular video in Japanese or Korean that you want subtitles for, I could do it for you.

I don't actively do this and share videos publicly, because what's actually okay to do in terms of copyright is unclear to me, sometimes. A little while back, I translated a Korea SNL skit about AlphaGo and posted it here, but shortly after, the video was disabled from public viewing on YouTube, since it was not my original content. Since it takes time to do these videos, I'm reluctant to do it on a whim, now.

But if there's a particular video that you have for which you'd like me to privately translate (and it's legal to do so), I'd be happy to do it. For the AlphaGo video I translated, it took a couple of hours to translate about 15 minutes, so for a full-length video (e.g. 1 hour), it'd probably take me a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on how busy I am.

Thank you so much! That's very generous of you! I don't have anything in particular I'd really like translated. The only player I've ever actively watched (as I'm relatively new) is Cho Chikun, so could you perhaps do a game of his? Maybe this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mk2HEHY-oXE ? Don't feel like you have to, though. It sounds like a lot of trouble.

Sure. Given its length and my schedule, it'll probably take a couple of weeks.

I also have some recent go study goals, so this will be a part time project.

I guess you have watched already all those 10-12 videos translated by Jonathan Hop in the SundayGoLessons YouTube channel?

Yeah, I've watched those and several from Baduk TV. Thanks though! :salute:
