14k game

Post by Ryukai »

First game in awhile I've been able to play with a clear head, so I figured I'd show it and see what you all have to say. Thanks in advance.

I was black.
:b67: - I don't know what's wrong with this. Could you explain more?

Hi Ryukai,

Please see Hane @ Head of 2.

Locally, ignoring the rest of the board,
this exchange is bad for B, good for W:

Do you get a feeling that :b1: head-bumps himself against W's strong shape ?
A different, contrived shape and example:
Given the following, would you play (a) as B ?

Do you get a feeling the :b1: stone is unhappy ?

Now compare and study the :b67: shape in the game.

I think I understand what you mean, but what would be a better alternative to my move?

Locally, L13 is a candidate.

A move like :b71: is not very big. It enlarges b's territory by maybe 2 points. At the same time it invites w to secure a much bigger territory below.

Therefore at :b71: I would probably have played the shoulder hit at H4. It is a nice reduction, there are black stones located in left & top directions and - if white answers by securing the bottom - it could potentially develop a large moyo in the center area.

If there is a drawback with :b71: at H4 please someone let me know.

Here is how I saw some of these situations.

Thanks for the comments, Daal. I actually played as black in that game, though that doesn't make any of your points less helpful. And you're right about the moves at O9 and J12, I let some rather frustrating experiences with getting cut replace a simple reading of the situation.
