Any L19ers going to the Cotsen Open next weekend?

Post by Calvin Clark »

Cotsen Open

I'll only be able to attend Saturday, since I will fly back to be at my daughter's piano recital.

I am strongly considering, but haven't bought tickets, yet. As you may know, I'm waiting on a medical result early this week. If the result doesn't imply a hospital stay next weekend, I will very likely attend.

My goal will be to not lose all of my games. I have been very distracted lately, and have not studied at all recently (despite grandiose plans).

My biggest motivation for attendance will be the social aspect, since I already missed congress.

Hopefully, I'll see you there!

With any luck he doesn't need luck.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Thanks :-)

Things will work out, I'm sure. Will I be able to win a game this weekend? Not so sure ;-)

Well, if you don't I will play you a game on DGS. I am on one of my worst streaks in years.

Having a good time at the Cotsen so far! I lost my first game on time, but I believe I had a good position. My opponent said he "stole" the win, but time is a part of the game. I won the next two games. Hoping to win two tomorrow for a 4-1 record, but we'll see.

I lost this morning. I feel good and bad at the same time that it was due to a silly mistake in the late middle game. I think I wanted to Winn too much, and that made me overconfident and greedy.

One more game to go, and since my chances of winning my division are gone, I will take it easy and try to have fun.

The only good thing about losing is that it relieves some pressure. 3-2 would be better than 2-3, but the score is average enough for me to relax.

Maybe this tournament can serve as motivation to study.

Anyway, round is starting. Here I go!

Won the last game for a record of 3-2. Ok, I guess, given my expectations going in.

It was a fun weekend. I'll post pictures later.

Yeah, I lost my first game by time. All in all, I feel OK about my performance, given: (1) My lack of serious study, recently; (2) the things going on in my personal life.

It was nice to take a break from reality and play in a tournament for a weekend :-)
