Re: New tournament Shinyao(æ°å¥¥æ¯) cup
I just had a look at the Gu - Fang game, the ending was pretty spectacular with several semeais including one with a temprary seki that was a bunch of virtual liberties as the group on the other side of the seki would need to capture a dead group before being able to break the seki.

great results. Although it's a shame huang yusong lost to shin jinseo, it was expected.
But lee sedol losing was unexpected
And Peng Quang Laoshi also won, which is great. And ida atsushi also move on to rd of 16, so basically, almost a perfect round, other than huang vs shin.

Re: New tournament Shinyao(æ°å¥¥æ¯) cup
I would call it a bad round for Korea. I think Kim Jiseok's form is better than Kang Dongyun now, so I would prefer him to advance instead. Now the pressure is on Shin Jiseo.

I think idontgetit is (at least part) Chinese!kimidori wrote:I would call it a bad round for Korea.
Winners in bold:
Shi Yue vs. An Sungjoon
Chen Yaoye vs. Xia Chenkun
Kang Dongyun vs. Kim Jiseok ........... 2 biggies
Han Seungjoo vs. Paek Hongseok ........... surprise
Shin Jinseo vs. Huang Yunsong
Lian Xiao vs. Byun Sangil
Ida Atsushi vs. Chen Xian ........... only Japanese
Peng Liyao vs. Jiang Weijie ........... bit of a surprise
Fan Yunruo vs. Wang Shiyi
Shu Yixiao vs. Fang Tianfeng ........... Old guy Chinese #150 beats Chinese #139
Tan Xiao vs. Xu Jiayang
Tang Weixing vs. Ke Jie ........... 2 biggies
Li Zhe vs. Li Kang
Cho Hanseung vs. Zhou Ruiyang
Kim Kiyoung vs. Lee Sedol ........... big upset!
Hu Yuefeng vs. Peng Quan
As for Lee Sedol's game, I don't understand why he made that monster ko at top right when he didn't have enough threats, or at least answer white's threat move 54 at b6 in a submissive but threat-minimising way (though why didn't white cut at b6 as threat?). Once that corner died and he got weak groups on both the left and lower sides it seemed game over despite the top side profit, though full credit to Kim Kiyoung for dealing solidly with the bad aji and flailing cutting stones that Lee Sedol so often manages to find some magic with (e.g. resurrection of "dead" traded stones in last game).
Kim Jiseok vs Kang Dongyun was a pretty spectacular sabaki inside a moyo and over in 101 moves. Also started with the close approach to the Kobayashi that's making a comeback.

Re: New tournament Shinyao(æ°å¥¥æ¯) cup
Tough matches for all my favorite players, except Peng Quan.
It would be fun to see Ida overthrow Ke Jie, though it doesn't seem too likely to happen.
Shin Jinseo has a "free ticket" to the best 8, but then again, we all thought park and gu li had a free ticket the first round, and that Lee Sedol had a free ticket this past round. I'm really cheering for Mr. Fang because he's so old, and also because IMO, Shin Jinseo is the no. 1 threat. Even if Lee Sedol and Park Junghwan are ranked higher, Lee is already getting older, and Park seems to not perform as well as he can in important matches. Meanwhile Shin has been incredibly strong this year (Or maybe I just happened to see all the matches he won, but none of the ones he lost), and he's so young.
I really like Shi Yue, but he also has a tough match up. I'd say 50/50 for this match.
The other four match ups are not really interesting, but I don't want a complete China sweep, to be honest. 2K and 5-6C and 0-1J would be a good result from the next round, IMO.

Re: New tournament Shinyao(æ°å¥¥æ¯) cup
Please note there is a new game record for the round 2 game between Lee Sedol and Kim Kiyoung. It was reported that the game was not completed recorded so an incomplete one was released. The complete sequences were later recovered (from video record, that's how I understand the situation). This is a new international tournament and the people organising it was not very experienced. They should get stronger players to help record the games.

From what I heard Rui Naiwei told them that the record was incorrect, and Kim went in to correct it himself.

Re: New tournament Shinyao(æ°å¥¥æ¯) cup
As expected, Kang Dongyun lost (thought I would also cheer for Shi Yue, he's my favorite Chinese player). It is the first time for Shin Jiseo to carry all Korea's pride, I hope he could be mentally stronger than Park Junghwan used to be.

Shin Jinseo seems to be extremely promising, and I think we could potentially see a shin-Ke era for a few years soon.kimidori wrote:As expected, Kang Dongyun lost (thought I would also cheer for Shi Yue, he's my favorite Chinese player). Not very happy with today's results though, only person I wanted to win that won is Shi Yue
And Poor Fang Laoshi, losing like that. And it's especially bad how the chinese commenters are acting. I mean, did you seriously expect Fang laoshi to win? There's no shame in losing to Shin Jinseo... Fang Laoshi probably already feels really bad about the game.
