Re: 8th Ing Cup
Aww, my old prediction that Park would be the first to win the Ing cup twice looks unlikely now, though 2 runner-ups in a row is not so bad.

Tang's other international title was against Lee Sedol in 18th Samsung Cup. He did beat Park in the semi-final round next year.

Ah correct, thanks. Sorry about that; just remembered Park has had a hard time against Chinese players when it's not single-game elimination.
Haven't checked Tang's actual record, but it feels that he struggles more against domestic opponents while playing better against Korean top players.

In general, I think this is something Park is known for - while he's held the "number 1" spot in domestic Korean ratings for several months in a row now, he hasn't had much success in the international scene, even compared to lower ranked Korean players. I wouldn't really say he's teased about it, but maybe it's something he's known for.
Personally, I feel that's probably one reason why he'd hang onto a game that he's 11 points behind on - aside from the money for the tournament, he probably wants to change this (i.e. he'd keep trying to win, even if it were clear he'd lose).
Nonetheless, it seems he hasn't been that successful at international tournaments, yet.

Re: 8th Ing Cup
I think Park has a good record in the Chinese Weiqi league, but it's international single competitions he does less well in, maybe not coping well with the pressure. Checking Mr Kin's wonderful site (http://igokisen.web.fc2.com/cn/2015al.html) for the last few years:
== 2016 (so far) ==
Park Junghwan: 8-4
Ke Jie: 12-3
Tang Weixing: 5-10
Kang Dongyun: 6-6
Shi Yue: 10-5
Gu Li: 7-5
Mi Yuting: 9-6
Chen Yaoye: 7-8
Choi Cheolhan: 9-5
Lee Donghoon: 9-2
== 2015 ==
Park Junghwan: 11-3
Ke Jie: 16-5
Lee Sedol: 6-6
Tang Weixing: 9-9
Kang Dongyun: 10-4
Shi Yue: 13-9
Gu Li: 11-10
Mi Yuting: 11-10
Chen Yaoye: 14-8
Choi Cheolhan: 1-4
== 2014 ==
Park Junghwan: 11-2
Ke Jie: 18-2 (Ke was in Park's team this breakout year, Mi and Tang too: they won)
Lee Sedol: 9-2
Tang Weixing: 9-10
Shi Yue: 11-9
Gu Li: 13-6
Mi Yuting: 15-5
Chen Yaoye: 10-11
Choi Cheolhan: 7-7
== 2013 ==
Park Junghwan: 13-4
Ke Jie: 14-6
Lee Sedol: 8-4
Tang Weixing: 10-11
Shi Yue: 14-7
Gu Li: 12-6 (won league, Gu's team has been most successful over many years)
Mi Yuting: 15-6
Chen Yaoye: 12-9
Choi Cheolhan: 15-3

Park Junghwan: 10-5
Ke Jie: 9-8

Shi Yue: 16-5
Gu Li: 16-5
Mi Yuting: 11-8
Chen Yaoye: 14-7
Choi Cheolhan: 10-4
So Park has been consistently one of the best if not the best in the league. Ke Jie has recently been amazing, particularly 2014. Other top Chinese pros tend to have decent not amazing ratios, Mi's been pretty good, Tang lately poor. Lee Sedol some good, some so-so. Choi Cheolhan noticeable from going from amazing in 2012/2013 to so-so to lousy and decent now.

I am surprised that neither Chen Yaoye nor Shi Yue have had any 'great' years over this 5-year period. So how big a factor is the difference in format between league and tournament play? Interesting!

Re: 8th Ing Cup
I'd consider Chen's 2012 and Shi's 2012 - 2013 as great years. Being the captain of a team, they are facing the best players from the other teams each round, and if they can win over 60% of their games, that's pretty fantastic. The game between captains also carries more significance since it's used to break the 2-2 tie.
On the other hand, Ke Jie's league play in 2014 was no doubt fantastic and signaled his rise, but he also benefited from being on such a strong team where Park was for certain the first choice for captain then, and he got to face more the 2nd-tier players.

Re: 8th Ing Cup
It's a scant consolation prize after missing out on the Ing cup megabucks, but Park just beat Tang in the Chinese City league: http://www.go4go.net/go/games/sgfview/59320.

Re: 8th Ing Cup
yeah, he was 10-3 against zhou ruiyang but lost in the semis of the LG. Can't win the important matches.
Where as tang weixing sucks in the league games, but performs well in tournaments.

Re: 8th Ing Cup
The 2016 Chinese Weiqi A-League just concluded, and Ke Jie finished 18-4, all as captain of his team. Fair to say it's the most impressive feat the league has seen.
