I'm guessing it has no intuition regarding playing four-people Go.

Yes, particularly with mixed strength pairs/teams. Rengo is about the stronger player trying to play moves the weaker partner can understand and play correctly afterwards, rather than playing the best (complicated) move assuming perfect players.
