Tsumego from your games

Post by jussius »

How about a thread where we post tsumego from our own games for others to solve? Of course it doesn't have to be exactly same as in your game. Feel free to modify the positions if it makes them more suitable for tsumego, or you can post situations that could have happened but in the end never did.

I'll start with a rather tricky situation from my game. In the actual game I was trying to read what happens after black plays 1. I thought black could probably get a ko without steps so I ended up protecting before black had the change to play 1. But after the game I analyzed the situation in more detail and it turns out maybe white isn't in any real danger here. Can you find a way for white to win the semeai?

P.S.
I'm kinda new here. Is this the right sub-forum for this? Or should it be in General Go Chat or Amateurs

Hi jussius,

Thanks for starting this thread.
Seems a good place ( there are grey areas :) )

My first thought was:

$$ . . . . . . O O O X X X b . |

$$ . O O O . O O X X 1 a . O . |
$$ . . X . O . X . . . . 2 . . |
$$ -----------------------------[/go]

Threatening both a and b. But then I realized Black should play:

$$ . . . . . . . . . . . X . . |
$$ . . . . . . O O O X X X . . |

$$ . O O O . O O X X 1 . . O . |
$$ . . X . O . X . . . 3 2 . . |
$$ -----------------------------[/go]

Is there something better than:

$$ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . |
$$ . . . . . . . . . . . X . . |
$$ . . . . . . O O O X X X 4 . |
$$ . . . . O . . O X O O O X 6 |
$$ . O O O . O O X X 1 7 5 O . |
$$ . . X . O . X . . . 3 2 . . |
$$ -----------------------------[/go]

$$ . O O O . O O X X X X X O . |
$$ . . X . O . X . . . X O 1 . |
$$ -----------------------------[/go]

Now it's going to depend on the rest of the board.

I'm likely missing something, of course. Your position seems a bit different from the actual game position.

Hi Fedya,
Thanks for the vars. If the outside libs are a problem,
then just add enough stones to maintain the "essence" of the original shape. :)

In this var:

$$ . O . . O X O O O O O |
$$ . . O O X X X X X O . |
$$ . O . X . . . X O 1 . |
$$ -----------------------[/go]
Instead, B probably needs to turn at :b1: :

Hi EdLee! Nice job, jumping down should be the correct move for white, and your variation is one way black could play, to get corner in sente. But if black is really serious about killing white, he can still force a (somewhat heavy) two step ko after white's jump.

In your "white kills himself" variation, black 3 is actually a mistake after which white can live unconditionally.
