Any Go shops in Chicago?

General discussions about gobans, etc., go here. If you're selling go equipment, it should go in the Trading Post.

Any Go shops in Chicago?

Post by harumi »

Hello All,

I am planning a trip to Chicago soon and was wondering if anyone knows of places to purchase Go goods? Mostly looking for new stones and books. I have purchased online from various vendors but was hoping for a hands on experience. A google search yielded no results other than their local go clubs, but it seems they all meet at coffee shops and what not - so I assume they don't sell anything. Thank you all ahead of time for your help!

Cheers.

If you're looing for high end equipment, Ebay seller zh.li69 is based in Chicago and sells some very nice boards and stones. I don't know if they have a store front, but it could be worth contacting them to ask if you can browse their goods in person.

Just checked out that shop...WOW beautiful stuff. I would pay just to touch some of it, but don't have that kind of budget at the moment unfortunately. Thank you for this information though :D - maybe some day i'll be able to spring for such high quality.

I've found some go equipment and books in Chinese in the Chinatown section of Chicago (google maps: https://goo.gl/maps/Lw2NDK3gYvT2), but nothing organized -- they just seem to show up in bookstores or gift shops at random.

There's also a Mitsuwa marketplace just a little ways outside the city http://www.mitsuwa.com/locations/chicago/ that had a bookstore... but I haven't been there for years.

I've heard that you can get Baduk equipment at H Mart in Niles, too, but haven't been myself: http://nj.hmart.com/stores/niles/

Good luck!
