Alexander Morozevich used to be one of the top chess players in the world (and is still in the top 100), known particularly for his very creative play and opening research. He has acquired a keen interest in go and currently has an EGF rank of 2k. This recent interview is of course largely meant for a chess audience but may still be of interest here.
Tiger Hillarp Persson is another chess grandmaster who has spent a lot of time on go; his EGF rank is 1d.
Top chess grandmaster Morozevich on go etc.

I enjoyed reading this article as well, it also lead me on to find this https://www.chess.com/news/view/chess-g ... match-2272
A chess - go match , which is altogether rather superior to chessboxing!

Alexander scored 5 from 6 this week-end in our local Go tournament.
He got 175 rating points and now close to 2d!
He even beat a 4d!

Tiger Hillarp Persson, Morozevich's opponent in the Chess/Go match at the St Petersburg EGC, recorded the games and some thoughts on his blog: http://tiger.bagofcats.net/chess/saint- ... ch-part-1/.

Sorry, but can't find which 4d he beat.
Found only 2124 GOR and 2234 is the best his GOR result for last years and dozen tournaments - so it quite stable, which is not even close to 3d.

I guess what Alex says is true, so maybe it is not in the EGD yet, or ever...
_or_ maybe indeed his Russian rank is 2 dan and he has beaten a Russian 4 dan.
