This thread about Kamakura led me to read through the Joseki part of Gateway to all Marvels (Xuanxuan qijing). There's quite a few sequences starting with the one-space pincer and I found them really interesting, especially as examples of close quarter fighting. Each time I play through old Chinese games, I feel like I'm reminded that there's a whole world of possibilities on the goban and that the "calmer" Japanese modern style kind of hides that.

Re: One-space pincer in 'Gateway to all Marvels'
Thank you very much for posting all these, very interesting sequences!!
Indeed, very different from the Japanese style - but also very different from the pro style I would say.
Many of these "old joseki" turn quickly into life-and-death problems, if one is not careful.
Because of the forced star-points beginning, looks like old Chinese masters ended up studying the star point variation in greater detail compared to the Japanese masters.

A major reason josekis look different in old Chinese manuals is the group tax applies and so greater emphasis is put on connecting
