Name my KGS tool library
I've written a library of tools related to the KGS Go Server. As I'd like to release part of it as open source, I'm currently looking for an apt name to refer to it. Maybe someone here has a nicer idea than what I could come up with?
A name would ideally be easy to recognize and be related to its functionalities. The library's main purpose is to provide a reliable basis upon which other services can be built upon. In particular, accurately observing player strength over time. It also offers a collection of positions encountered in games. Missing data are mainly downloaded and parsed from the KGS archives automatically.

Hi,
What programming language have you used?

Re: Name my KGS tool library
Mostly C#, PHP, three flavors of SQL, Ecmascript and a couple minors. The part that would be published first is almost exclusively C# iirc.pnprog wrote:Hi,

Kogs. A play of words on KGS and cogs, which are often used as a symbol for tools/settings in applications. Logo: A cog cut from a go-stone.

Re: Name my KGS tool library
Might be confusing because of the three letters OGS.HermanHiddema wrote:Kogs. A play of words on KGS and cogs, which are often used as a symbol for tools/settings in applications. Logo: A cog cut from a go-stone.
Maybe KGS-toolkit? or KGS tool suit?

KGS Toolkit Library = KTL for short.
Reminds me of FTL, which stands for Faster Than Light (Travel)... heh

Re: Name my KGS tool library
Thank you all for the many ideas. I especially like Kogs, even though it resembles related words like OGS or Kogos (joseki).
I'm afraid it collides with the Kgs Teaching Ladder. On the other hand, it is not active anymore anyway.Bantari wrote:KGS Toolkit Library = KTL for short.

Kgs Teaching Ladder or KTL is a room on Kgs server, still exists and some activity (though in the rare occasions I log into Kgs these days it seems to be less than when I was active years ago, it helped me a lot when I was a kyu), Go teaching ladder or GTL was a website for game reviews that is no longer active.maf wrote:I'm afraid it collides with the Kgs Teaching Ladder. Oops, I confused them. That rules the name out.Uberdude wrote: Kgs Teaching Ladder or KTL is a room on Kgs server, still exists and some activity (though in the rare occasions I log into Kgs these days it seems to be less than when I was active years ago, it helped me a lot when I was a kyu), Go teaching ladder or GTL was a website for game reviews that is no longer active.

Re: Name my KGS tool library
You could make something up like “Kottle” (roughly originating from KGS Toolkit Library).

Re: Name my KGS tool library
Yes...if you want something that describes its function, you can be serious (but not especially exciting)..KGS Tools etc.
Or think or an interesting noun to put after KGS and once it's hugely popular no one will ever question it (KGS Station, KGS Platform, KGS Tower...)
Or go crazy and just come up with a name that is slick and rolls off the tongue...Kigass! (you can pronounce it pretty close to 'Kickass!'if you try...

Working on losing those 100 first games...one horrible fiasco at a time...
