My game against CrazyStone (4k) - please review

Post by negapesuo »

I came across the CrazyStone app and gave it a try. I think it's perfect for me at my level, since I can always play against an opponent who is slightly better than I am.

Below is the game that I had where I played as black. I finally got the better of it after many, many matches, but I still feel like I was trailing the entire game. I have a hard time identifying where the biggest point on the board are.

Anyways, please review and I hope you enjoy the game.

I haven't been playing long so I can't really review your game but I did want to drop in to say I very much enjoyed it! I think you played very well as black, never wasting a stone and I have the feeling you never let white get into his game.
Great game, thanks!

At move 13, R5 seems too passive. It makes K3 a big move for him: it gives him a double wing formation in the lower left, and it stymies the natural westward extension of your shimari.
I would have played K4. Now if white takes R5 ( or Q5 ) you have a very nice pincer with helpful stones at K4 and Q16. I could be wrong about K4, but I really like the feel of the game on a large scale.

At move 21, I would have played L4 instead of M3. ( Indeed, you might tenuki at 19 to do this. If you get a large outside formation on the lower side, the best response to Q18 may be P17 followed by O16 )

From move 52 through move 135 you have the opportunity to play P2 which is a big sente for you. If white ignores it, you follow up with Q1 and white has to win the ko to live. ( If he avoids the ko with R2, you reduce his eye space with T3 )
Help make L19 more organized. Make an index: https://lifein19x19.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5207

Thanks Joaz and Bill - I did not even consider those variations.
