Invasions & Reductions by Iwamoto Kaoru

Post by Katharsys »

Does anyone have these books that they are willing to trade/sell? With Slate and Shell out of print I have not been able to find anything and these books seem to be the only sound material on the subject matter.

If someone can point me in the right direction on how to acquire these books or have recommendations for substitutes, please let me know.

Thanks!

$36.28
List Price: $129.37
Save: $93.09 (72%)
LOL, when was the list price so expensive.

Easiest way currently is to buy the smartgo book versions if you have an iPad or an iPhone or a Macintosh.

Hi, I see from David Carlton's review that this book is a catalogue of invasion or reduction patterns.
There was an equivalent in french language : Lee Chang-Ho's Invasion and Reduction : http://www.jeudego.com/catalog/advanced ... b2&x=0&y=0

I have not read it, but it is a collection of examples taken by Lee Chang-Ho from his own games, with a discussion for every example. I think it is aimed at dan players.

But if you are looking for the theory behind invasion and reduction, instead of patterns, you have Learn to Play Go volume 4 - Battle Stategies, by Janice Kim and Jeong Soo-Hyun, that explains all the fundamentals for kyu players.
Then, for single kyu / low dan players, Attack and Defense, by Akira Ishida and James Davies goes deeper.

If you are looking for common patterns, there is 100 Tips for Amateur Players volume 2, by Youngsun Yoon, that has some. It especially focuses on 3-3 invasions.

Other books with important theory on invasions and reductions are Positional Judgement 2 - Dynamics and Fighting Fundamentals.
