This is a weird and kind of bad move, and I think you responded correctly to it.
I think there are two things wrong with this move, which kind of made the game in the balance again. First, I think you should extend a few more times with your three stones because there is some damezumari. Second, the other cut on F17 is better because you can escape to the side and it's painful for Black.
The approach on this side is not good, I don't think. Black's move is an extension and a pincer. However, playing towards the corner group is urgent, I think, because your corner group and Black's group are weak.
