Fighting Game!

Post by Ian Butler »

Okay. So in June I want to work on my weakest Go skills. Call it an "emergency month", where I want to patch up on my shortcomings.
What are those?

- Some minor things
- Basically everything, who can ever understand Go?
- Fighting.

So let's go with fighting here.
I made a KGS account designed to train my fighting. I'm not looking to play my best game, but I'm looking to get into fights and train those skills.
I started yesterday, with a terrible game, then went on to an okay game.
Today I have a little bit of both.

My thoughts on it are that I start off very badly. I make a stupid move and create a weak group of my own. By some miracle I make it thick and survive. From then on, I think the game goes well. I fight well and kill, using my influence.
24 is the mistake. (black is not weak, I am just attaching to a strong group and allowing myself to be cut)

Any help appreciated. On fighting in particular, but general advice also welcome (though keep in mind I'm not looking for the widest spaces, the best joseki, the most points... until the fighting is over)
So places where you saw other opportunities to fight where I didn't are definitely appreciated! (though a fight that can gain something. Not just fight to fight)

Thanks!

PS. I am Spoonsy.

Without the hint I thought N15 and cut off those 2 stones.
With the hint I now think cut at P15, Black has several options, but like you say, he has to be careful about those "dead" stones, so white can profit and take the important stones off the table.

Tough read-out, though!
