Free Apps for Android and iPhone

Post by Chaosrider2808 »

I was out for dinner last night, and my new Marketing-Go-Set worked on the first try! There was a guy there who I've seen off and on for about 8 months, and he saw me playing against my little pocket AI, while I also displayed the game on my awesome new wooden 9 x 9 board. Yesterday he said he wanted to learn how to play Go.

I told him that there were free apps for that, but when he looked Igowin up on his phone, he could only find it listed for 5 bucks. Not much, I know, but it was enough of a deterrent that he didn't get it!

Are there any FREE apps out there for either (modern) Android, or iPhone? They would greatly support my marketing efforts. They don't need to be "smart" at all; the Igowin level is easily enough, and dumber than that would be OK if it's FREE.

Pointers?

Thx!

:salute:

Check this thread for AQ Android
AQ is a free strong AI program which does not need to be connected to the internet in order to be used.

If connecting to the internet is OK, then it is possible to play against an AI on various board sizes without registering anywhere and without installing anything: cosumi.net/en

The AI should be smart enough for a beginner. Try first 5x5.

You guys are awesome!

I'll let you know how my plan to turn this guy from interested into a Go player works out.

And even if this one doesn't work out, I'll now have these for future opportunities.

THANKS!

Hactar Go Lite is also free one, good SGF viewing and if I recall correctly, it had an AI as well when I last checked:

Good reviews on Google Play Store, and I know the author is a good guy, a fellow Finn. :)

CrazyStone is free, it has a solid 2 dan strength.

Go Free - the Pro version need to pay a small amount (like $4), but it is well worth the money. The UI is better than any in the market. It has a solid 3 dan strength, the style of play is thick and solid, a good model to learn from. Being able to move back and forward (multiple steps), try different alternatives is essential for learning. This is the app that I recommend.
