AlphaGo 2.0

Post by sorin »

I just saw this article mentioning "AlphaGo 2.0"' that played in Taiwan:
http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/taiwan/ ... 2003699172

"A team effort by Taiwanese go professional Chou Chun-hsun and Facebook’s OpenGo program failed to dethrone the world’s top go “player,” Google’s AlphaGo 2.0 program.
Chou played against AlphaGo 2.0 with moves suggested by OpenGo.
The challenge was part of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Computational Intelligence Society’s Summer School on Computational Intelligence for Human and Machine Co-learning program at National Kaohsiung Normal University, which ended yesterday."

The article is dated Aug 25, 2018.
Does anyone know what is this about?

I found a Chinese article too, I cannot read it but they clearly write about "Alpha Go 2.0" so it is not a case of "lost in translation": https://udn.com/news/story/7266/3326762
Also, very unlikely that some random program would "hijack" the name.
Hopefully there would be some clarifying news soon.

No involvement of Google, DM, or AG in this event.
( Someone misstated some info, either by mistake or deliberately. )

Thanks Ed - is that fact clear from the Chinese article, or do you have information from other sources?

How did the name "AlphaGo 2.0" come into play, was is meant as a metaphor for "Go programs developed after AlphaGo" maybe?
