Remove front page altogether?

I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, but what about setting http://lifein19x19.com to just go straight to http://lifein19x19.com/forum? The stuff like "Sudoku" and "Open Source Files" just don't really fit, and there are many sites/database that are superior to the "Pro Game Database". The twitter feed on the right seems to just tweet from goBum and goProverbs rather than show Go-related tweets, and the Papyrus logo is still there :p. I suppose a large renovation on the front page is possible too, but I think it's less work and more sensible to just have it redirect to the forum. What do you guys think?

Now that you mention it - I completely forgot about the main page after my first visit because I bookmarked /forum and lived happily ever after

I agree, it's not the greatest first impression to give a new user... I think we should redirect straight to the forum until we get something more solid together for a front page.

Not pretending they don't exist; rather, I think we've cultivated the image that Life in 19x19 is a forum, so it only makes sense that the front page is a forum, not a portal with Sudoku and a Twitter feed.

Well, it was a web site before it was a forum, and I think we should respect that Jordus set up that site when he did. It's his site, and if he wants to keep it that way, it's totally his call.

Hopefully, at some point, it will be extended to include book reviews like gd had. So we might not want to make it a forum-only site.

I didn't even know there was a front page. GD had the link to the forum and I clicked on it, bookmarked it, and that is all I have seen.

Hopefully, at some point, it will be extended to include book reviews like gd had. So we might not want to make it a forum-only site.

I am hoping we can extend the front page with something like carljung has mentioned. There is no particular design that the front page has to stick to. I was going to mention suggestions for a frontpage redesign once the forum features were pretty much 100%.

For now, I removed search engine tags "board game" and removed the sudoku game as well.
