Study plan for high dan

I am about a 1 dan player. I often win against 2kyus and 1kyus on kgs even tho I get the occasional loss to them. anyways I am aiming for 4 dan on kgs.

Here is my study plan.

Tsumego section.

Go through Graded go problems for dan players volume 1.

1001 life and death problems advanced off tsumego tasuki.

Get strong at tesuji. I am not really experienced with tesuji so I am just going to do 'Get strong at tesuji''. for now



I am going to go through Reducing Territorial frameworks and direction of play.


Get as many games in a week as I can.

Ok. here is a game I lost. I played poorly thanks to playing fast. my opponent was a '1dan''. I felt like I was getting toyed with.

I was black.

Not a very comprehensive response here, but quick thought: at B 117 , you missed out on the free and fun ko white set up for you.

My guess is, to miss something like that at your level, you were playing really hurried--and as a result, giving your opponent more credit than he deserved.

Done half of graded go problems for dan players volume 1.

Only done 14 problems of 1001 life and death problems.

Read a couple of chapters of get strong at tesuji.

Haven't got started on Reducing Territorial frameworks. Read a few chapters of direction of play.

Did 1 game. I won the game. my opponent was a 2 kyu

In the first game you have a pretty big weakness at r5 from move 88 for 60 moves that white kindly never exploited. Had you seen that and had a plan to deal with it?

Completed graded go problems for dan players volume 1. I am doing graded go problems for dan players volume 2 now.


Read through Get strong at tesuji. I am going to do 501 tesuji problems now.


Readed reducing Territorial frameworks. Haven't made any progress on direction of play.

Played one game.

I made a number of mistakes in this game. my biggest one I think was not immediately playing at k19 at move 133. I was black. I lost.
