Yutopian out of the go biz!

General discussions about gobans, etc., go here. If you're selling go equipment, it should go in the Trading Post.

Yutopian out of the go biz!

After many unanswered email inquiries, I got through to the proprietor last week, 2019.06.15. She told me that Yutopian is out of the go equipment business and they have no plans to sell go equipment in the future because they can’t get any.

Do they still sell Go books and go software? I cannot say because I did not ask.

Over the span of at least a decade, the Boise Go Club bought several excellent sets from Sidney and I enjoyed meeting him at the US Go Congress in Seattle in, umm, ‘95? He always had unique go stuff. That year I took home four sets of dirt cheap Korean glass stones and several pairs of nicely shaped, thick plastic bowls.

I am Very sorry to see another USA source of interesting and diverse go equipment shut down their operations. Other resources such as bookshops and Asian marketplaces have stopped selling equipment, too, for any of several reasons, lack of suppliers is just one. Seems to be an unstoppable trend. If you want high end gear and know where to get it, you might want to buy it soon.

Ah, first the ING stones were discontinued, and now this.
( samarkand went from Go equipment to... something else. )

A 20-year-old camera store just closed in town; previously, Sears, Staples.
The Apple store is doing well, and the Amazon store is coming, soon.
