Hi, thanks for answering. I don't remember the exact game, but it wasn't working for any game downloaded from gokifu, or just saved to sgf from Zen 7. It wasn't a handicap game.

Perhaps the fix of "invisible games" which was installed today, may have an impact on the issue you described.

ZBaduk would appreciate some feedback about our services.
I created a short survey.
Your participation is certainly appreciated.

Services are great now as far as I am concerned, and thank you for that!
But there is one thing that I miss at the moment... There is a feature of KataGo that provides the difference in points between the two players, and I don't see that being implemented yet, or maybe I missed it somehow?

It's been a while, but just installed a new version.

There are several changes in this release.

This should be addressed. (see screenshot 1).

Thank you, looking all good now!
Is there a way to input komi, like 6.5 or 7.5. Is 7.5 default for Kata?

Not yet, but komi, handicap, rulesets and scoring are certainly on the high-prio list.

I realize that these features were probably expected about a month ago. But I am slowly working towards a solution. Let me give you some background info on that:

One of the issues that slows us down, is the fact that we still have servers that only run LeeLa Zero. LeeLa Zero however does not support these features, only the servers that run KataGo do. The unfortunate consequence of this situation, is that we would have to gray out some features if the user connects to a server that only offers LeeLa Zero. And that could be very confusing. And what makes it worse, is that there is not enough transparency right now. The connection screen does not mention which bots are supported by which servers. So, the user basically has to guess. (GPU3 server actually is the only one that has KataGo).

These challenges can be avoided by just upgrading ALL our servers to support KataGo. And that should be the solution! Unfortunately, KataGo is slightly more difficult to install than LeeLa Zero. KataGo prefers a very specific version of CUDA (10.1), which is not that easy to install, imho. Right now, it is an exhausting manual process for me.

Now, in parallel I am working on a kind of load balancer. This load balancer is important because it can allow us to host more servers at lower costs, which would benefit all of us. The very fact that I haven't found a way to automate it yet, also means that this loadbalancer can't automatically spin up new instances for it. So, our load balancer is on-hold too.

So, I am afraid that it may take another month before we can get these features. But they ARE coming! I can guarentee you.

Hi author. As a premium user, I'd like to know if your website is mining bitcoins or something similar during my visit and analysis? The reason I ask is because CPU % jumps from 5% (when not doing anything) to 90% when doing an analysis.

I can assure you that ZBaduk is NOT doing anything like that.
(not client side, and also not server side).

Why can ZBaduk use so much CPU?
It's all about "showing" the statistics. i.e. charts, tables, goban annotations.

I understand that we need to prioritize on performance first now.
And for starters, I can look into disabling some visuals.
I will start adding some hide/show buttons next to tables and charts.
If anything, this can help us to narrow down which components are the slowest.
(edit)

Thank you for letting me know.

Please send me a private message with your account name.
I will make sure there is some compensation for the inconvenience.

I just installed an update which is mostly about performance.

I worked mostly on the efficiency of the refreshes of the goban and the chart.
This should strike a better balance between refresh speed and performance.

Another small addition, are the red dots which you can see in the tree.
These dots should help you to quickly find the worst moves of the game.

Thank you for your quick reply. The compensation is not necessary, but again thanks.
My laptop is very weak, so maybe that explains it.

Did you notice any difference after the last update?

I am not having much luck with ZBaduk. The interface looks very easy but I find the controls unresponsive. Uploading sgf files is hit and miss, mostly miss. And once uploaded, shifting from one file to another is pretty much impossible. I notice that your screenshot of "Saved games" has a Load and Delete button. While I have Review, Play vs Bot and Delete buttons but no Load button. At the bottom there is an "Upload more games" option where you are asked to select manually or drag sgf files. Drag doesn't ever work but manual sometimes. When it does it says I have created the game I selected. But then what happens? It appears at the top of the list of Saved games. But the second game in the list is highlighted. How do I get to the first game. Clicking, double clicking, using arrows, nothing works. And if I go to Smart Review sometimes I can review whatever game is highlighted but most often I get an empty board to play. Now I have gone back to my Saved games and they have all disappeared! This has happened before. Only for them to reappear later. The other problem I find is getting logged off all the time. I think I am reasonably computer savvy, but no programmer. I have tried running ZBaduk on another device. Just the same issues. I have asked my wife to see if she might have more luck. All to no avail. I even emailed zbaduk361, but as yet have no reply.

Has anyone else had similar issues? Anyone with some advice? I keep thinking I am missing something obvious...

Are you trying to say that you would prefer to open multiple files at the same time ? e.g. tabs?

pauljc wrote:

Click selects them, double click opens them, and you can also use the arrows of the keyboard to move up/down.
Could you tell me which webbrowser and operating system you use (including webbrowser version numbers) ?
( ZBaduk is constantly being tested on both FireFox and Chrome. But we don't actively test other webbrowsers. )

pauljc wrote:

If you open smart review from the navigation bar or start screen, then you will get an empty board.
If you open the smart review by loading a game from the saved game list, then that specific game will be shown.

I answer (almost) all e-mails within 48 hours. So, something must have gone wrong here.
Could you tell me, when you e-mailed me (just the date is enough)?
(I don't have any e-mails of "paul" or similar. I just double-checked. PS: and if you are a paying member, I would like to offer you a refund. But of course I would just prefer to sort this out and find the cause and to work towards a solution.)

Hi Spook,

Thanks for the reply. It is much appreciated. I originally emailed you on 20 Sep. I am a paying customer. And no need for a refund. I use Chrome Version 77.0.38665.90 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Windows 8.1. I might try Internet Explorer to see if that works any better.

I am not trying to open multiple files/tabs at the same time, as far as I know.

You say "Click selects them, double click opens them, and you can also use the arrows of the keyboard to move up/down." I am having a bit more luck now. But I still find the keyboard arrows don't always work. The same can be said for the Delete button.

Further you say "If you open smart review from the navigation bar or start screen, then you will get an empty board.
If you open the smart review by loading a game from the saved game list, then that specific game will be shown." I will keep that in mind.

I am happy to say I have managed to review some games with ZBaduk and have found it very useful.

And I still have the problem of Saved Games going missing. And if there are games in the Saved game list, how do you load them from that list. As I pointed out I don't have a Load button. I have just tried Internet Explorer. Same problem. I have found it almost impossible to load a single game to the Saved Game list. But often can load 5 or 6 at a time. But then scrolling from a highlighted game to another which I want to review is impossible.

Thanks to Paul's post (and a private e-mail with additional info), I managed to find what went wrong.
Then last Saturday, I installed a new version of the website.

It turned out that one of the SGF files contained something that made the game list crash as soon as it tried to render the preview. And what happens next matches exactly with the above descriptions. So, ZBaduk was fixed for this last Saturday, and Paul confirmed that the game list works again for him.

At the same time, I also provided some small additional features that will hopefully make this a better experience for everybody.
I added some scrollbars to the mass-upload button.

Attachment:
scrollbar.jpg
scrollbar.jpg [ 100.79 KiB | Viewed 193 times ]

And it has a better pager below the saved game list.

Attachment:
betterpager.jpg
betterpager.jpg [ 44.78 KiB | Viewed 193 times ]

And if for some reason, you prefer to remove all records from your account,
I added a button for that on the account page as well.

Attachment:

Once again, sorry for the inconveniences.

ZBaduk just added a new server. This server is actually a kind of virtual server.
This server is a kind of load balancer which spawns instances of GTX 1080 TI instances.

- This is an attempt to improve availability of our services (during peak hours).
- You may notice though that sometimes there is a slight delay in communication.
- But this is mostly compensated by a higher performance altogether.
- And on top of that it's always up to date with the latest network files.

We will refer to this server as "GPUX" from now on.
Right now, it's pretty experimental (and currently only runs LeeLa Zero),
and from time to time we will be installing patches which can lead to disconnects.

That's why we still keep our GPU3 server online (which offers both LeeLa Zero and KataGo).

(Our GPU2 server (which had slightly outdated hardware) has been terminated though.)

Have fun.
