When did you hit plateaus?

When I started playing (in a club, on 19x19) I was around 15k, this was in 2001.
I quickly got to 9k and then had plateaus on 9k, 8k, 7k, 6k, 5k, and 3k.
The plateaus at 9k and 7k only lasted a couple of months, and at 6k I stopped playing for a year so those probably don't count.
Noticable is that I managed to maintain at 5k for three years (2004-2007), through two Go to China trips, but then almost skipped 4k.
The above is according to the Swedish ranking system. According to GOR, I was around 8k 2002-2004, 7k 2004-2006, and 5k 2006-2009.

Recently, I have been doing good with a couple of 4/5 results which made me 2k, so I still have some hopes of reaching shodan before I retire...

As for plateaus (how strange it is to write this word. I'm sure it comes from french, since the french word is "plateau", but the plural form is "plateaux", writing "plateaus" is a child spelling mistake), I felt a great one between 10k and 12k (new KGS), but I think I overcame it, and I don't fear up to 5k players. But maybe I'm mistaken.

KGS 12K, 9K and 6K. But it's hard to be sure whether these were all plateaus (at least those prior to 6K), because I don't remember how much I was studying. I was at 6K for like a year, and I've been 5K for a few months, just about to hit 4K, but I've been taking lessons.

As for overcoming--since 'come' comes from Old English, the correct preterite form is "overcom", not "overcame".

(and the correct past participle is of course "overgecomen", not "overcome").

Regarding what's "truly" correct I do not know, but what I do know is that no one I've ever met used "overcom" or "overgecomen" before and this thread is the first time I've been exposed to such variants.

I was trying to lampoon Tryphon's logic. Plateaus is entirely valid English.

What gave it away was:
Postcount being higher than any single person.
Sakata and DrStraw having suspicious similarities over the years.
His Oro 5d rank. I vaguely recall Sakata mentioning something like that a long time ago.
...and posting such a challenge seems fitting for DrStraw.

The fact that I didn't find it hard to figure out should probably tell me to spend less time on the forums and more time doing productive things, but who's listening to that inner voice anyway

I suspected after some posts on GD were suspiciously similar, even one that seemed to be a "oops I posted with the wrong account".
When IAmNot registered and posted a few posts, it was obvious to me who it was.

What took so long? It has been very difficult maintaining a facade for over a year. There are times when I almost posted out of "character" by "mistake". But the challenge was too much to resist after a conversation one night about how easy it was to create a personality and be anonymous on the web.

Sakata's and DrStraw's similarities have been pointed out on a number of occations. Off the top of my head I recall both being retired, 2-3D kgs, liking 3-3 openings, somewhat blunt (although Sakata takes the lead). Both have been members of the AGA (at least I think I've seen DrStraw mention it). I'm sure others have noticed other similarities. I could deduce the age somewhat of Sakata from some posts, but never for DrStraw.

But similarities is one thing. Proof is another. The details I posted above was too much of a coincidence though.

Plateaus: The only one I've experienced was quite severe and I have only just broken through it. I was 11k KGS for a year or so, and serious about progressing, but just couldn't do it. This time had been quite an emotional rollercoaster The number 11 is a cursed number to me now and I'm phobic about slipping back there. (Not REALLY, but also not not really).

Currently sitting at 9k KGS and sliding backwards.. >_<

The only plateaus I've ever hit are due to external circumstances. When I have a lot of stress in my life or when I lose interest for a while.
