'a' seems very big and sente. How should Black defend, by the way?

i would play 'b' here. i don't think black can live even without white playing 'a' and 'c' doesn't look very promising

I don't understand this problem. What is the aji in the corner? Supposing White plays elsewhere, what can Black do in the corner? I tried to live like this but didn't succeed. I must be missing variations.
