How to make KGS better?

Comments, questions, rants, etc, that are specifically about KGS go here.

Isn't that a feature of OGS?

Anyway I don't really see the point of having an AI analysis on a go server, as I can run Katago on my computer after the game.

Hm. So another go server is more advanced, having a feature integrated that you would otherwise need use a separate program for, and therefore KGS should abandon hope of being competitive in that regard?

I personally don't know how to use Katago or Leela and don't really want to learn how to use a separate program to analyze my games. Seems too complicated to me. Imo, if KGS had something comparable to what Lichess or Chess.com offers in the way of an easy-to-use AI that identified mistakes and missed opportunities and gave me the opportunity to learn from my mistakes without needing a degree in computer science, KGS would be a better go server than it currently is.

But that's probably true about many of the suggestions that have been floated. Thanks for reminding me that OGS is still actively developing its product - I'll check it out.
Patience, grasshopper.

What we‘d need is a client that works under all main systems: windows, ios, macos, android. KGS itself is complete. I like its plain and simple surface.

Hm... I'm biased, but I'd say other OS'es have a higher share in Go compared to mainstream. I'm personally thinking of Linux, but there might be others. And I think current technology allows for more general distribution that exe / deb / ... packages

Take care

But it is not 100% of what you get with the client. KGS could close the gap to other servers if someone would make it run everythere equally. What did the AGA do with KGS anyway, it looks like no progress or ideas.

It really isn't. I'm not a technically astute person and pretty lazy/spoiled when it comes to using computer programs and I can easily install and run Lizzie (a UI with which to use KataGo or LeelaZero). It runs on a local computer, unlike OGS or the new kind AI Sensei. This has the drawback of local energy consumption but on OGS or AI Sensei free version, you only get minimal width/depth. Locally you can explore whatever you want, as deep as you want.

Recent experiments with AI Sensei Free show that its analysis is unreliable, e.g. calling out a 2O point blunder which a few moves down the line reduces to a small gain in the opposite direction. That is due to the limit of 50 playouts. In OGS I can't even see the number of playouts. So I prefer a local solution.

After using it for months now I agree. A good piece and the only one that works with iOS. Its creator should really think about putting it into the App-store for some bucks.
