Note that this method of posting is a real pain in the a$$. Reddit (image) to OGS is a terrible way to go. The only thing we can see in the image is "https://online-go.com/game/4236696" and that produces a useless screen.

Basically, Black has just wasted a move. The connection has no meaning at all. There are no weak White stones involved. However, there is no way to say more than that without excessive effort on my side. So, find a better way to post your questions (please)!

The best way to post a position is

1. Download the sgf file
2. Open the sgf in a text editor
3. Copy and paste the contents of the file in https://senseis.xmp.net/tools/sgf2diagram.php
4. Select the move number, type "0" in the field "Number of moves" and click on "Generate"
3. Post the diagram in your message like this

Code: Select all

[go]
(paste code here)
[/go]

Thanks Kirby.

There's a lot more to say about Black than about White. This is a correspondence game then. Are you treating it as a correspondence game where you put thought into your moves or are you just clicking a button as if it were a live game?

My impression is that you are treating this as a correspondence game and that your opponent is treating it as a live game. I get this impression because while I don't play correspondence much I used to play and I would treat it as a live game -- click a move after 10-20 seconds. And of course I would make mistakes, whereas some opponents would spend a lot of time (clearly) on their response. And OGS even has a feature to let you pre-submit moves and then you know for sure that your opponent has set a trap for your carelessness. It's a bit off putting to me. A Ferrari can do a quarter of a mile in a few seconds but if you give a lazy man 5 minutes he can achieve the same feat. But some people like correspondence and that's fine. It's just that when I play online it is a substitute for playing at a board. So playing correspondence style doesn't make sense for me.

It seems to me like Black is just making mistakes and letting White off easy.

If you like playing on a board also, my recommendation is to pick up "Go Quest" app on your phone or play on browser (http://wars.fm/go9) and get in 10+ 9x9 or 13x13 games for every 19x19 correspondence game you play. Games are faster to pick up and end quicker on Go Quest than on OGS. I never play 9x9 or 13x13 on OGS anymore. And I use Fox for 19x19 now but it is wild.
