Jan van der Steen passed away

Post by HermanHiddema »

Jan van der Steen passed away last week at the age of 64. He was active in the go community for over four decades and made it to a 3 dan rank. He was the founder of gobase.org and 321go.org, two sites which helped many people learn the game and get stronger. He will be sorely missed

I knew Jan van der Steen from IGS/Pandanet. He was very frequently watching and discussing games there, especially in the past year. He will certainly be missed there even if many will not read about it here. I think his webpage was also coming back from a long hiatus. Hopefully gobase.org can be kept alive in some form.

I am sorry to hear that. I did not know him personally, but I used GoBase a lot back in the day.

One of the pioneers of Go analysis in the West has left us at an early age. My condolences to his wife and the Dutch Go community.

What??

Really, what a loss.

Back in the days, his page was the main go source information in English, perhaps the only one and for sure, the best. His contribution to spreading go in the West was very big.

Thanks for your hard work.
