I was writing a reply on another thread, on handicap pros and such, and something I've thought about some other times clicked into my mind...
Besides the games and situations reflected in "400 years of Go in Japan", by John Power, John Fairbairn and Mr. Grant, what other historical games would you include in a historical collection? I'm thinking of games that could pike someone's curiosity. For example, a game against baron Okura (or other political figures of the time) might not be specially interesting to a Go player, but it would be significant to a student of Meiji history.
So? Candidates?
My proposals:
+ Some Chinese classical games. I know next to nothing of that. Huang Longshi's blood & tears?
+ Tibetan Go
+ Sunjang Baduk
+ Some of Hayashi Sano's games
+ Some of Kim Ok-Kyun's; either his against Shuei OR one of his sponsored games
+ 50th Honinbo
+ Rui Naiwei
+ Cho Chikun's revival
+ The modern jubango (Lee Sedol's, Rui Naiwei's...)
+ AlphaGo (Fan Hui and Lee Sedol)
+ The Western Pros. I'm not aware of a single commented game on Hans Pietsch. That's a shame. Literally.
+ Advent of the child players. Take your pick. I'd actually rather avoid that, but...
+ The Cho's. From Cho Nam ch'eol to Cho Koharu.
And I'm sure I'm missing some. Any takers?

Funny you should say that. The first book I got on go ends with a (very briefly) commented game (in German) Hans Pietsch 1p vs Yoda Norimoto 9p (LG Cup 1997 1st round, Pietsch won by 1/2 pt as black on 5 1/2 komi). The book is called "Go. Die Mitte des Himmels" and is not so much about the game as a story about history and philosophy of it.Ferran wrote: + The Western Pros.
