Go (a sonnet)

For fifty thousand moons, perhaps yet more,
your elders have rehearsed this secret show,
a world inside the world that was before,
cloaked from the West beneath the name of Go.
I'm told of brighter skies, but this is vaster,
a universe of black and white persuasion
where sweetest triumph dances with disaster
to new old tunes in endless variation.
Like love and faceless toil, the game consumes
a man's unbridled journey to the night,
yet other rites are passed in higher rooms
while mortal gods wage wars of dark and light:
_ Outside this plane where stones besiege their brothers,
_ inscrutable and raw await the others.
