What is the best way to know my current level on KGS?

Post by TimeZero »

Hi! I played a couple games on KGS, but I was losing at first. Then, I started to read Go for Beginners and I can tell I've improved, but I don't know how much...

I'm currently listed as [?] and my estimated level is still at 25k. The last game I played was 10 minutes ago where I've beaten someone playing black with 5-stones handicap and I was white. I'm a bit confused right now...

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Try to relax, play some games. :D Seriously, I don't think there's anything better than that. Your performance will vary greatly between games at this level, but eventually the number beside your name will be right.

to know your KGS rank, play rated games (preferably against players with an established rank)

Just play. A preoccupation with rating is detrimental to progress. You will get a rating all in good time and when you do don't worry about it - just play.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).
