Seattle Go Center - Reduced Fall Hours

Post by Redbeard »

From the Seattle Go Center announcement list. Reposted with permission.

Dear Go Players,

We are sorry to report that due to financial considerations (our downstairs rental space is currently vacant) the Seattle Go Center's new fall schedule will have reduced hours. Please note that we will now be closed Mondays, Fridays and Sundays that are not tournament days.

Unfortunately, we have also been forced to lay off our two excellent teachers: Scott and Eddie. In addition, Jon Boley's Wednesday night class will now be charging a $5 tuition in addition to attendance fees. I will continue as Manager, but will not be paid for teaching.

We need your help to keep teaching Go to beginners and intermediates, especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays. All along we have had strong volunteer support for teaching, and we have new volunteers for this fall. But we need more teachers, especially on Saturdays from 1-7. Often you will have opportunities for even games as well.

Your financial support is needed too. Please consider upgrading your membership, and if your circumstances allow, making a donation. If you have an enlightened employer who makes matching donations, I would be glad to help you apply for the match. Having many small donations is encouraging to big donors, so please help out at whatever level you can afford.

Here is the revised schedule:

Sundays -- Open only for Tournaments, such as the Monthly Ratings Tournament
Mondays -- closed
Tuesdays -- Open 3 - 10 p.m.
Wednesdays -- Open 6:30 - 9:00 for Jon's class. (No class Sept. 1)
Possibly open at 3:00 if we can find somebody to cover 5:30 - 6:30.
Thursdays -- Open 2 - 6 p.m., sometimes later.
Fridays -- closed
Saturdays -- Open 1 - 9 p.m. If we can get enough volunteers.

Regards,
Brian Allen

I'll miss both Scott and Eddie. With the way things are going, I feel like I should have been using the go center more actively. I guess the thing to keep in mind is that we're really lucky to have a go center at all.

Yeah man.. all yall up in Seattle should go daily. I LOVED that club when I visited. I really hated leaving Seattle. Best go club in the country, imho.

I really hope your financial considerations improve. I know if I were there I would gladly volunteer.
