Gee, as a weaker player remind me to not participate in one of these complain-a-thons. Aren't the stronger players meant to have some kind of special endurance gland?

Hehe, awesome stuff. This game rocks. I feel rather better about my move now. I think I'm going to take a slight change of tack with future moves and comments - this game is clearly going to be enlightening to all involved, especially if the stronger players make efforts to explain why some things are more urgent than others. I'll try to do my part, and hopefully magicwand will do his!

Thank god for kyu mistakes... it's like white was engaged in a fistfight with his opponent, and then held his hand up in the middle and went off to get a Pepsi from a nearby soda machine.

Now, we should take control.

My thoughts on the recent moves:
I think the 48 that was played can be considered game losing:

This move is absolutely vital. It keeps the big White dragon out of the red zone, hurts Q3, and also gives more aji for 'a'. After White plays at 'b' and Black plays at the marked stone, the lower corner is larger, 'a' becomes less of a problem, and more importantly the big White dragon is now in trouble. I don't think I've ever seen such a move that has as much momentum as this one. It'll be interesting to see how White handles from here.

The big question is going to be what happens with the fight for that big dragon. So far black seems to have resulted the best from the slack plays. Do you think this is mostly just because Violence is the first one to get to play after the weaker players?

Also in response to singular: I don't really see this as a complain-a-thon. When you get into these fights and slack plays get made that really swing the game one direction or another, the stronger players are going to have some thing to say about it. Like topazg mentioned, hopefully they can put together some good commentary so when the weaker players get a chance to go back through, they should be able to learn from their mistake. And I say this as some one who would be making all of these mistakes -- and I'd definitely be interested in playing one of these in the future.

Hehe, yes well don't get me wrong - I might have posted hastily. I too would like to play one day, but I would be afraid that the stronger players might let their disappointments show a bit too much, rather than just giving cool-headed instruction and leading by example. :) A fault of my expectations I think. *re-wires brain*

This is a wonderful example of urgent before big. The game has completely transformed with Violences last move:

In this position, the majority of the game revolves around the marked stones, split loosely into 4 groups. The circled White stones are immensely heavy, and must be settled asap really. There is reasonable aji in the squared White stones, but there's nothing they can do just yet. The circled Black stones are potentially very important, but very thin, and as corners are important Black wants to save them. The squared Black stones are obviously safe (Jordus' last move should have been at "a" as it kills that bad aji and secures the squared Black stones).

So, how to devise a strategic plan? Change the status of those 4 groups as favourably as possible. If White plays "b", the big dragon is completely settled, safe and happy. What's more, White threatens both "a", threatening to attack the squared Black stones, and also to take the corner. As the corner is so large and White playing "a" seems slightly premature to me, Black will probably play "c" to look after his corner, allowing White to save his crazy unhappy group, keep sente, and take "1" or "a" or some other move as well. Where weak groups exist, especially big ones, group status management is urgent.

Apparently you can't be 4d at go AND diagram editing at the same time :)

P3 should be a black stone and 50 should be a white one, right?

I'll be moving later.

Magicwand thinks it's time to stabilize the white group... I have to see if I can thwart that plan... or make gains elsewhere by assisting it.

W50 is probably intended as a sacrifice to make thickness/connect on the other side of the black stone. I don't think I can ignore it as white will just connect and that will be too good for them.

N11 jumps out at me and I would play it without thinking in a fast game. But here I'll actually do some reading...

...ok, a little reading doesn't show anything obviously wrong with this move. I'm short on time, so I'm gonna go with it. I expect topazg to cut at n12 and I have no idea what Jordus and Phelan will do. I think we're ok if Jordus extends from either stone, which is a proverb, right?

I really wanted to play R5, as it's screaming out to me to be played as it's so big, but last time I did my own thing in this game it went wrong, and magicwand clearly wants to play here, so I'll cut, which really is the only local move this time!
