I know you're way above my level, but I might gain some insight by seeing how you play in a given situation.

Some guidelines:
* If one or two of your stones are cutting or separating your opponent, they're probably quite important.
* A single stone of yours that isn't touching anything and is an extension from another stone/group of yours is probably somewhat important.
* A stone of yours that's touching a group of theirs is probably worthless.

I'd be happy to play a teaching game, but I've been busy and haven't been online too much lately. If you see me, feel free to ask. (lavalamp on KGS)

I'd welcome a teaching game from you! I don't want to waste your time or anything, though. I guess a part of my thing is I get all this advice and then fail to implement it. It's like it's going in one ear and out the other.

@Judicata: Hm, either way is fine with me. I'd really just like to improve.

I think my biggest problem is that I'm not studying hard enough. I can't buy books, and I'm not too good at implementation (as I said above).

Have you tried asking/looking for teaching games in the KGS teaching ladder?

Books aren't necessary. Playing is the most important thing.

When I was about 17k I found out that a 1d player lived close to my house. He offered for me to come over and play a game anytime. I was too embarrassed about my weak skill level to ever take him up on the offer. Not long after that he moved away. I really regret never taking him up on his offer.

Now that I'm strong enough to teach beginners (as least a little, maybe), I really love playing teaching games with them. I love it when I can see the light come on above their heads whenever they learn something new from me. The only reason I might not play is due to time constraints with family or work. But otherwise, I never feel my time has been wasted (well, there was this one time, but that's a whole other story).

Never turn down an opportunity to play against a stronger player :)

And you'll catch on eventually. Don't worry about it.

I'll keep that in mind. It kind of makes me glad I'm going to playing with a 5K and a 13K in real life this Sunday.
