And it is not just that, it is not that easy to be the first to ask in a silent room (psychologically). Or more scientifically spoken, chatter assures you that this communication channel is open the same as the occasional chat about the weather in real life gives you the opportunity to start some more important communication, i.e. it fulfils what Roman Jakobson calls the phatic function (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jakobson%2 ... f_language).

I don't think children should be allowed to have fun. Lets ban everyone from having fun! From now on, only dan players can discuss joseki variations in the EGR and that's it.
