Re: Life in 19x19 Title Tournament, Round 1 and 2 draws
How do people feel about those who have been active and playing and been knocked out getting second chances by replacing no-shows?
If so, what's a suitable way of choosing who gets to jump back in ?

I would suggest that Nakamura's previous opponent tj86430 who only lost by 3.5 pts to him gets a second chance.
Second option is to find someone around ketchup's strength, i.e. 2-3k (or another 4k, 5k, 6k volunteer)
Third option is to declare ketchup as winner by default. He's five stones stronger than both potential opponents.
But if the first two options fail because of missing players and he feels too bad about option 3, I would be willing to serve as cannon fodder (once again

I'm ok with that if no one comes up with anything better.

Here's the result. I played White, Tabemasu played Black. B+19.5
We did do some review afterwards, but the comments are a little garbled. I'll post the game, and when I clean up the review I'll add some comments and post to my Study Journal. It will probably take until tonight, though.

I'm okay with this as well. I don't really know of any good methods about who would be picked as a replacement though. In the end, I just want to make this tournament a fun experience. I dislike winning/losing by forfeit, it's not something I want. So, if there is anyone wanting to be a replacement, I would be happy to play them. Just point the way, and we shall have our match.
I know nothing.

How about the replacement is drawn from a hat or something? Or we can take it a step further and draw to names and have them play a game to see who get to play in the actual tourament.... Just some suggestions...
I'm thinking...

Hi,
what about asking who'd like to possibly play again and topazg chooses one randomly (dice, hat, ...)?

Go is easy: don't play bad moves.

Hey guys, due to some negative circumstances Im afraid I have to resign completely from the tournament. I'm sorry for anyone whom this may have inconvenienced.

I'm kind of against this largely because it makes it harder to keep a good-looking standings page
If it is instituted, my vote would be for the last person that the dropping-out player beat to replace him - in effect, he has forfeited the previous game by abdicating the responsibility to keep playing that comes with winning it. This seems fairer than letting random people jump back in to that spot - at least it's a consistent objective rule.
Note that the same issue just came up with my game as well since Mosdefgo dropped out.

Seems easiest to me to simply avoid the second question by simply saying that no-shows are a forfeit.

Re: Life in 19x19 Title Tournament, Round 1 and 2 draws
I personally prefer that no-shows are just forfeits and that we move on without them. It's simpler that way, and it doesn't give anyone an extra chance to win that some other player did not get.
We don't know who we are; we don't know where we are.
Each of us woke up one moment and here we were in the darkness.
We're nameless things with no memory; no knowledge of what went before,
No understanding of what is now, no knowledge of what will be.

I didn't think about this.... I have to say I agree...
It just didn't dawn on me...
I must have been blinded by the possibility of maybe getting to play again...
I'm thinking...

And I think this is one of the big reasons we should just stick with a simple forfeit and move on.
It's very tempting to vote to have some body step back in, but again, that's coming from the fact that I'm one of the people already out of the tournament.
Just keep it simple, make them forfeits, and we'll keep the games going. I'm looking forward to watching more of them!
