KGS Android Resolution requirement?

Post by danielfox »

I was thinking about picking up a Samsung Intercept on VM (The 25$ plan with unlimited data sounded nice)
But the specs on the phone look pretty dismal. 240 x 400 resolution? Would that be enough to run the KGS client?

wms made it so it scales to the current resolution, I don't think that's any less than the phones out now. You'll probably just miss the chat window, which you can still bring up via the menu.

zerokun in right. KGS will work on any resolution you can get. With more pixels it will look better of course, and a physically bigger screen will make it easier to enter your moves accurately. Depending on the w/h ratio there may or may not be a chat window below the board (there is always a "chat" button that pops up the chat window so you can see game chat no matter what). But if your phone is android, and supports the android market (this part is important!!!), then the KGS client will work all right.

One nice thing with the Intercept that might make the lower resolution more usable is the slide out keyboard with directional keys. My phone has a slide out keyboard and using the directional buttons is my preferred method of manipulating the cursor on the android client. For me, accurately aiming using just the touchscreen can be a little tricky, but using the direction keys to move the box around makes is pretty straight forward (just make sure you don't accidentally hit "enter" before you're ready to move (= ).
