The purpose of correcting users is the attempt of making this forum one with a higher percentage of correct contents messages. Such is fundamentally important in Go. By avoiding mistakes, we become stronger.

AFAIK, it is common knowledge that in a standard 1-5 ranking system that 1 is referred to as bad and 5 as good. We can thank amazon.com for that one...

I tend to agree with Robert on this point, and exactly because of Amazon.

Whenever I've attempted to rate an Amazon purchase with a poor rating, they still try to recommend similar books, as if I had given it some positive rating.

And for a while, they had no ability to remove a rating (Netflix has this same problem now).

I don't think they're recommending based on your rating, but rather based on the fact that you've purchased it.

Horrible idea. Image --
We don't know who we are; we don't know where we are.
Each of us woke up one moment and here we were in the darkness.
We're nameless things with no memory; no knowledge of what went before,
No understanding of what is now, no knowledge of what will be.

purchased, not purchased, own, don't own -- it doesn't matter. If you touch a star, they think you're interested in it, and they say so when you follow the "why was this recommended?" link.

It isn't touching the star that does it. Viewing the item puts it on the list. I view something and I get recommendations for like products. But that is just corporate advertising and sales at its best...
I'm thinking...

A thumb up,, neutral :white: or thumbdown  would work for me. But for book reviews, what's recommended for beginners wouldn't be recommended for strong dan players so reducing a recommendation to one dimension is alway problematical.
