One small thought to take away:
On move 74, you fill a very small ko, sometimes called a half-point ko (http://senseis.xmp.net/?HalfPointKo)

Don't ever fill such a ko unless it's the very late endgame!

I'm at 545 problems solved for the year
i kind of slowed down since schools back in

I haven't won a game on wbaduk since my last post
thats why i havent posted in a while - no point increase

I'm on the 14-10 kyu set of problems now Wbaduk # 1
I'm going to start doing the test room too

i win on KGS but only against 9 kyu players
i figure I'm about a strong 9 kyu

i lost every game so far against every 8 kyu player i played
so needless to say 7 kyu is my goal, I'M TIED OF LOSING

i still have a 8 kyu rating but i bounce up and down all day
its ridiculous how every game my rank changes

i have been losing a lot lately so I'm hungry to know what I'm doing wrong. in class the other day we got this quote i kind of applies to go

Thomas Kempis-The acknowledgment of our weakness is the first step toward repairing our loss

Enjoy, there are more than 1000 of those problems. (I am doing them myself. I can solve them, but they are not in the solve at a glance category at all. You will be better after you are through them. I am by the way only 200 ahead of you :)

Nice! Personally, I'm not sure I'd like to have my stupid mistakes* dissected by a pro in a public lecture like that but hey at least you can learn from it.

* And just to be clear I'm not saying your mistakes are stupid, just that mine usually are :)

Well, these are the grades of improvement :)

At first you feel good about your play, then you start recognizing a mistake, then you call the mistake stupid, finally you don't repeat it.

i'm on number 49 on my Wbaduk problems
and i have been playing some great games also

i only won one so I'm
4600 22 kyu

these 14-10k problems are a lot different than the other set
but i managed to get 10 right the first try
one thing about these problems i read out a solution
then i go to play it and a unexpected move by white messes
up my original plans but sometimes its easier to find the eyes
after the fact

it takes from 3 - 6 tries until i get it
but i'm gaining confidence i'm my reading
and i'm learning patterns of l&d like some of the solutions
are similar but different positions so
I'm starting to recognize patterns that help me solve other problems

and i think some problems have one or two answers
i got good answer but not correct answer on 4 problems
i wrote them down so i can go back and find a better solution

its a little harder to knock out twenty a day on this set

Yes. Sometimes there are alternative sequences that work just fine, but are not accepted as a solution. Sometimes, it gives you a "good move", for a solution that works but is not the straight one, it is usually worth the time to figure out why as there is often a meaning behind it (less ko threats e.g.).

i have been getting my butt kicked latley :blackeye:

im 4800 points now 22K

im on problem number 70 on the 14-10k set

i have got 21 right my first try out of 63 problems in total

i dont feel to good about that ratio
but im a so happy when i find the solution i dont mind
im learing a lot

im 9 kyu currently KGS
i will play more KGS tomorrow, gotta get my rank back
i have been trying more to get my rank to even out
playing mainly wbaduk, I'm two wins awayfrom 21 kyu

lately i have been in study mode
i cant figure out what I'm missing
to beat the 21k

i have been drilling the basics
going through the korea times baduk articles online
& doing alot of lectures on wbaduk
besides the obvious tsumego between games

i love the test room after i finish the text lectures
i will go through the test by level in the test room
to drill everything i have been learning in the lectures

i figured out another way to mix school work and go
im doing a paper on Robert Greene a very well known authour of the best selling 48 laws of power

which is interesting if anybody every read the book he talks about GO in law number 48 starting on page 423 he comapres chess to go and he says im my own words

go is more related to real world principles of power than chess because chess is rigid and position oriented and go is fluid and now a days everything changes so fast you have to be able to stay mobile and adapt to a ever changing board i mean world

Robert Greene also wrote:
the 48 laws of power & 33 strategies of war & the art of seduction & the 50th law with the co-author 50 cent a famous gangster rapper in USA

my paper will be on the 33 strategies of war and the 50 laws of power and how they relate to go

my topic sentence is- The laws of power and strategies of war covered by Robert Greene are real life proven principles that can be applied in business and in Go.

(the 48 + the 50 the law minus the 49 law that doesn't exist in robert green's writings)

i have about a month and a half before its due i might post it in the creative writing section of the board

thats my update back to my drills :study:

One thing about wbaduk ranks. Last I heard, they're full of sandbaggers. Also, they're very broad for kyus (i.e. a kgs 2k could be anywhere from 4k to 3d there). Don't take wbaduk rank seriously at all.

You are right redundant I won't be able to even out my rank
I was checking out the little chart on sensei library that compares rankings world wide and all the rankings look off

As far as sandbaggers u can usually tell who is sandbagging they are the guys wit 60 wins and 3 losses so u can avoid them and still have fun

I play a lot of certified ranks the guys wit * by the rank are certified that makes it easier to spot the regular players

i wish i can play professional even game and try to win.
you dont usually get that chance.
i used to pay $20 to play professional strength.

sandbagger is bad for your ranking
but sandbagger is good if you want to improve skill level.

yeah: red was not saying that you should not play sandbaggers (which is good practice, and I wish there were more sandbaggers where I'm at) but that sandbagging affects the ranking system, probably causing you to be lower ranked than you should be.

I'm 21k 5050 Wbaduk FINALLY
and KGS 9k
I still haven't got back to 8k
but I'm very close

I'm on #83 wbaduk problem set 14-10k
31 right out of 83
ehhh thats not as good as it could be
it took about 4 tries to get most of them
but some of them i had to skip and come back to
because it would drive me crazy looking at the same problem for several minutes
but i went back and turned all my good answers into correct answers
and that cleared up 9 unsolved problems out of my 83

i did the little test to determine your est rank
about 20 whole board problems
at http://play.baduk.org/
it said i was European 9 kyu

it was fun i did it on my iphone
I wish it where more sites online
where i can solve problems like that on my phone
iphone doesn't support java that knocks out a lot of sites
if you know any let me know please

i have tried the test in the test room for the
19-25k level but i don't think i finished the test
even though i solved about thirty something problems
it just wouldn't end so i stopped it
i wonder how many tsumego are in each level

it was really really really fun, the best time i ever had doing tsumego
30 seconds a problem, i felt like i was on a game show
i got 61.8 % the ones i missed i got immediately right the second try
these problems are not as difficult as the ones on the 14-10k set in the pop up window
but i might as well work my up, i need the practice

i tired the total test also
but that doesn't end either and its above my level
according to the charts i need help on everything

i made 50 percent on the opening so thats my strongest area
and i though my opening wasn't that good , I'm proud of that

i completed all the Responses & haengma lectures on wbaduk
now I'm doing the vital point lectures

and from my understanding haengma its kind of like tewari
u figure out the best sequence that leave u with the
best shape and position that coordinated with the whole board
thats what i got from the lectures very informative

I love this game :study:

I'm Still Wbaduk 21 kyu/ KGS 9 Kyu
Problem #133 got 42 right total my first try

i guess I'm growing up maturity wise in my go
i have been reading the zen & go stuff on sensei library
on this board and online. Its interesting because i never heard of it before
i read a few stories and took the things that help me out
I'm not going full fledged zen master anytime soon
or later not my thing

what sparked my interest though was a thread on this site that had a post about a
zen story and it was something about wanting to be a master swordsman
but the moral of the story was
"A man in such a hurry as you are to get results seldom learns quickly."
I related to the student

so I'm giving up my goal oriented approach
to gain a stone as fast as i can
and I'm just going with the flow
from now on and be patient

when i play a game winning was my goal before
now my goal is just to play better than i did the last time

i was really focused on my improvement too much
and going down in rank really messed me up
i don't think i every lost a stone, it made me work harder
and the wanting to win so bad was making me loose

before i started reading about zen i was getting my butt kicked
on a big losing streak and i read this little story
and all the guy said was it will pass and that got me right back into the game

so now i apply it to my go
i have been loosing all my games "it will pass"
I have been winning all my games "it will pass"

now i could care less about what the number says by my name
i just aim for the best move everytime its my turn

well that's pretty much my update in brief
:study:
standing still means going backwards
