"Thanks for the message"
I had two messages this morning with the subject line "Thanks for the message". Apparently these are sent out when someone likes a post. but it give no clue as to which post! It is a somewhat useless message. In my opinion, either it should give a link to the original post or it should not be sent.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Re: "Thanks for the message"
First, you have a point.
Now, if you are curious, under Profile, "Likes", "Was liked" you have a link "View/Close list" where you can see the list of likes.
Under "user control panel" -> "board preferences" you can disable the "Notify me on new private messages".

I know I can see them there, although the presentation of them is somewhat cumbersome. I already have notification disabled, but I don't want to disable private messages altogether.

Re: "Thanks for the message"
Oh , copied and pasted the wrong text. Should be:
"Notify me if someone thanks my post.:"

Ah! Thanks. I did not know that option was there. I just changed it.

Re: "Thanks for the message"
Sometimes I get an useful answer to a question I raised in my thread. Posting a message "thank you for your useful answer" seems a bit silly. Not answering seems a bit ungrateful. What about a button enabling the thread-owner to say thank you. The "thank you" might then be added as sort of emoticon ( or otherwise ) in that post of the useful replier. As a further option you might count and display the number of thankyous received by ( and/or given by ) forummembers. The difference with "I like this post" is obviously that only the Thread-owner can hand out thankyous.
( @drStraw: no need to thank me for hijacking your thread )

I think I am so I think I am.

Indeed, and now we need a "you're welcome button" as well!

The list of people who liked a response is public, so it's easy to see if one of them was the original poster.
