Super Bowl XLV predictions + poll

Post by Joaz Banbeck »

Who do you think will win? The Vegas line is Packers-2.

( My opinion is Steelers by 3. I saw the Packers-Bears playoff game, and was very unimpressed by the Packers. The Bears had to go to through three QBs to find someone who could play, yet the Packers only won by one score. )

Hmm, my advertising for my favorite team these last two weeks should make it pretty clear who I want to win.

Because Joaz has questioned my team, I feel obliged to back them up. Aaron Rodgers was very likely feeling woozy after that helmet-to-helmet hit Julius Peppers laid on him. He was playing great up until that point, but afterward he struggled to do much of anything. With him being healthy again this week, our offense should be back in top form. Meanwhile, our defense was very good against the Bears, shutting down all three Quarterbacks the Bears tried to use. And don't forget, we destroyed the #1 seed Falcons.

Anyway, looking toward the game tomorrow, and doing my best to put my objective cap on, I would say the Packers have a slight advantage. Their receivers are better than the Steelers' secondary, so I expect Aaron Rodgers should be able to pick holes in their defense. Meanwhile, with the Steelers' Center sitting out with an injury, it should allow B.J. Raji to make some big plays, and make it harder for the Steelers' offensive line to pick up on our 3-4 blitzes.

However, the Packers' advantage is only slight. Ben Roethlisberger is a great Quarterback in his own right, and the Steelers' run defense should easily shut down what little ground game we've had this season. As well, notwithstanding the game against the Bears, the Packers' Special Teams is terrible, and so the Steelers should be able to gain quite an advantage there.

So, I expect the final score will be in the range of 3-7 points difference. That being said, I felt the need to represent some Packers' pride and so I voted for Packers +10 in the poll :D . And no matter who wins, the fact that we beat the Bears to win the NFC Championship makes me happy about this season.

I haven't followed the football season much this year, but judging from history and from the little bit I did see at the beginning of the season, I will say that the Packers win by a margin of at least 14 points.
I'm thinking...

Unlikely--the Steelers are a very good defensive team. Their losses this season were by 3,5,10 and 13. They have held teams to less than fourteen points nine times this season.

I also haven't been following the football season so much this year, but I feel the Steelers are a very solid team. I'll go with Steelers by 10+, just because it will upset many Packer fans here. Regardless of the Steeler's "outside" lives, they just seem like the better team to me on the field.
I know nothing.

If the Steelers win, I doubt it will be by 10. The Packers haven't trailed by over 7 points at any time this season.

As someone whose family comes from Illinois, I find it necessary that the Bears couldn't buy a good QB if he was willing to work for free. Shutting down three of our QBs is like saying you shut down three Lions QBs. Congrats, I guess?

As a Duke fan, and a North Carolina resident (we have that cat team in our state, right?), I've long given up on football.

Give me college basketball, and let me pretend that this football craze will pass. ;)

I knew somebody would hijack this thread pointing out that the name "football" doesn't make a lot of sense. Ah, attacking games you feel are inferior and advocating for the "superior" game; us Go players wouldn't know much about that now would be?

Just to clarify: I don't think American football is inferior or superior to European football/soccer. I do not follow nor play either. Both are fine sports as far as I'm concerned. I just think the name football is a bit illogical for the American version and I couldn't pass this opportunity to (hopefully) humorously point it out. I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

I'm sorry too, I overreacted. I automatically assumed that you were trying to act superior by comparing American football with soccer/association football, and it irked me so I said something stupid.
