Very Fun Game Against a 3kyu(But in which I lost)

Post by oso »

I played this game against CardiffGo, who is 3kyu. I told him that I had been training hard, and so he agreed to an even game with no handicap, and it resulted in basically an enjoyable game. My thanks to all comments, but there's no rush. I played black, and lost by 4.5 points.

Cardiff's comment was right on the money -- you have good strategic sense, but are still weak tactically. Studying life and death is always good, but in your case I think studying tesuji would really help you improve fast.

No comments on the broader strategic issues, but a few comments on some early moves:

15) is proper timing for atari at n15 (useful forcing move, which you did get later).
31) should extend to D12 -- more influence and the W stone is still captured.
33) is wrong direction, much too close to B thickness to be efficient.
35) is really an overplay, especially after exchanging the previous two moves.
69) is not bad, but the hane at D3 would set up a superb double-hane tesuji next move. (W can atari once, but B just connects, and W still has no good continuation.)

Thank you mitsun. I would have replied earlier, but I didn't think that a cell-phone would have been a proper way to respond to your post.

yes, I am weak tactically. That's going to have to change! :study:
