My brother was playing this game (which we have both been obsessed with lately), and he pointed this out to me:

You can see in the lower left of the daimyo's profile that he has a goban, which gives command attributes to him in battle. Pretty cool of them to include it.
Now I'm on the prowl for shogi references in the game...

That's a neat find!
What's the game like? The last two of the series that I had played were Rome and Medieval, and then skipped Empire/Napoleon because of the fairly negative reception it got. Is Shogun an improvement again? How well does the AI cope?

The leftmost slot in the "Retainers" section shows a an image of a shogi piece on a shogi board. If the "go board" info is a popup/tooltip related to that, then the developers have mixed up go and shogi.

Oh, I had only looked at the picture zoomed out and assumed the picture was a goban and the black was black stones. Good spot. Pretty amusing mistake.
Maybe they use the silver general piece to indicate all games generals can get, to save file space.

I also noticed this while playing and I made a bug report:

Shogi also gets a text reference in the game.

It seems the Silver General is the default "gaming" icon in the game, as I had a feeling of.
