Disc 12 and beyond -- Hikaru no Go DVD's

Post by xed_over »

Just today, I accidentally discovered that Netflix is streaming all 75 episodes of the Hikaru DVD. These are the Viz Media produced versions (English titles, credits, etc.). But they are only showing them in Japanese language (which many people prefer, I think) with English subtitles, rather then the English language versions which are available on the DVDs

For rental, they only list the 11 disc (through episode 45), but they're not listed as actually available.

Well sure, but does the last episode translation say "Darken your room and sit close, it's the last episode!" ;)

Seriously, that is Great News. Maybe VIZ will move forward with a box set DVD release since they obviously have all the episodes subtitled. Does Netflix have the Hokuto Cup special as well?

You should submit this to the AGA Journal.

The english dub version really is beyond horrible - but its hard to imagine wanting to watch it that way even if they were good

I don't think so.

I like being able to listen to the dialog without having to read it. That way I can actually watch the video too.

And, if I recall correctly, the audio dialog is more fleshed out than just the subtitles.

Ya, they left the time code bar visible when the episode was converted for streaming. I haven't watched past 4 so I don't know if it's the only one. I plan on reporting it to Netflix once it shows up on my Instant Watching Activity list. I suggest that everyone else do the same.

And the Hokuto Cup special is not included in the series list  It's like VIZ wants us to find "alternate means" to watch anime.

Just a point, and maybe its something everyone knows already, but hulu also has all 75 episodes... which is nice if you don't want to pay for a Netflix subscription :). After all, except for Hikaru no Go, why should I watch TV when I could be playing Go? :)

A quick thanks again for pointing this out.. I forgot out wonderful this series was, simply as a drama if nothing else. Really enjoying it, again.

The manga is just as good, highly recommend.

I agree. I find it really annoying that this box set never happened (or hasn't happened yet).

I acquired Chinese ripoffs early in the HNG craziness. The English subs were weirdly amusing. One of my favorites is a scene at the junior high go club when one of the young ladies is learning to play and she shouts, "He ate all my grains!"

Didn't Janice Kim do an English "Go Go Igo" type segment for the toonami series? I could never watch toonami, so I only heard about it. Did anyone ever see it? I wonder if we will ever see a release of that?
