Fun Tournament

That's how the Iron Man Tournament on KGS has played out for me. Talk about rough. I've only won once so far and that was against the 7k by 15.5 points. But it's been fun nonetheless. Great experience. Especially since it's my first tournament. :D

I'm glad you enjoyed the tournament. Seems like internet tournaments usually have a lot more byes, so you're lucky you had most of your opponents present.

Good luck in this and future tournaments!

Thanks. Actually, though, there's a lot of participants in this tournament. I've played every round and I'm 92nd. <<

What a great idea! Been following this tournament (first time) for several rounds. The energy in chat at the beginning of rounds is palpable, and Syptryn's (mock) stressed out comments have been cracking me up. XD There have been some real interesting games. Oh, and sweety's unique way of referring to players as iron men is to cute for words. Maybe you could do a write up after its over - don't think I've ever seen anyone do an Iron Man tournament report. Anyway, good luck in the rest of your games! Uh oh, here comes another round..

Oops! I totally forgot about the iron man tournament :-| .

Ah well, I've played enough of them over the last few years to know that missing one is probably a good thing for the sake of sleep and sanity :P.

Have fun!

Heh, I didn't make it. I had to drop out. The lack of sleep just deprived me of any playing ability whatsoever.

Although saying I have ability whether tired or not is a bit of a stretch! lol

Interesting game from the last round (13?), didn't follow it during the round figuring Koffein wouldn't have too much trouble with shodan Pichan (Koffein was leading the open tournament at the time of this game). Was pretty surprised when I looked in on the game towards the end of the the round to see that Pichan was leading

gokgs.com is the place to go. They'll have a section for upcoming events and such of that nature. The next tournament is next month.

Find myself asking the same question. Its surprising how little there seems to be about the tournament, the creation of it, its history ect. Maybe I'm just not finding it, but I didn't see much of anything about it even on SL. Anyway, as a fan of endurance sports I was immediately taken with the idea when I found out about it. Its great that the tournament has been going on so long!

Congratulations to Koffein KGS's newest Iron Man (he played all 20 rounds)! Thankful I got to watch several of his games. Here is his second win over Syptryn

Yes, congratulations to Koffein!!

With two wins against Syptryn, he's at least around 5d, too? I won't be any match, but will try to participate asap. :study:

Eh, both of those players kind of irked me with what they were saying during their games. Perhaps it's just me, but Syptryn seemed rather disrespectful to his opponents. But again, that's just my opinion.

Well, I felt there was a bit of testosterone inspired gamesmanship going on perhaps (maybe also inspired by a lack of sleep) but all in all, having been there for many rounds as well as to read the chat and banter before the rounds I could sense the respect the top players had for one another. Much of the humor had a distinctly western flavor to it (what ever that means) and I can see how it could easily be misinterpreted. I think its also important to consider that we don't know all (if any) of the history that these players share. Taken out of context I could see myself being put off by some of the text I saw, but this was tempered in the measure of the whole of the interactions that I saw. In any case, even if I am totally off base here, I still thinks its better to give the benefit of the doubt. Consider the alternative. The number of times I've nearly allowed myself to be offended by the words or actions of another, yet paused to see, have given me enough pleasant surprises to feel the wisdom in it.

You're probably right. :P I didn't consider that.

But, what is western flavor? That sounds like a tea flavor or something. lol

Must be a special kind of humor.. didn't notice the chatting first, but I hope that is was a kind of reaction to lack of sleep, too.
