First Win on Tygem

Post by Jordus »

Yay my first win on tygem! I am now 1-20... sheesh....

Anyways...

I played black and made plenty of mistakes. Any comments are welcome....

Also, I think the ko we played at the end... I think I may have actually had lost if my opponent decided to take the ko instead of saving his big group... any insight to this?

I'm thinking...

If you speak of the ko over O2, it is not a ko; W cannot save her stones after you extend to S1. However, B219 should simply be at N5 to avoid that nonsense: W is caught in a connect-and-die.

Will comment more later, that just caught my eye (as did B205)
Keep in mind, I am frequently wrong.

Black 153 should be the hane at S6. It's a good shape to remember. This will make a good reduction into his territory. Your actual move loses you a lot of points once white simply plays S6 himself.
We don't know who we are; we don't know where we are.
Each of us woke up one moment and here we were in the darkness.
We're nameless things with no memory; no knowledge of what went before,
No understanding of what is now, no knowledge of what will be.

Congrats on the win.

7: This feels just a tad too casual. Now he can play C4, threatening C5 etc. So you have to reply C5, and then you are over concentrated and he has the corner.
On move 7, I'd contest the corner with C3.

9: I'd pincer here. You choose a joseki that goes low along the botbom, but, because he has G3, there is not much to be done there.
A pincer at R8 would work well with the upper right.

23: This is premature. Your stones at F17/F16 are heavy and eyeless. Fortify them first with K17 or K16, then attack.

31: You are creating three weak groups. This cannot end well for you.

38: He misses G16?

41: You are pushing the cart before the horse. Now C11 starts looking weak.
Just play the honte move at G14.

45: This is toothpaste go. You can't run as fast with two groups simultaneously as he can with one.
There are better alternatives: C3 is still big, J18 is probably sente, Q14 is greedy but big.

97: Good move!

119-127: Not a good exchange for you. He gets a wall that secures his territory; you get a wall that is neutralized by G11.

219: Watch the shape here. This can be converted into a crane's nest, which is an easy kill for you.

move 14: R11

The reason for playing Q7 instead of Q6 while weaker is to be able to go to R11.
