i tried the kobayashi fuseki for the very first time, and W answered by invading immediatly at :w4:

now in his articles on kobayashi, C. Mattews mention that it is too early, an approach on the right is usual.
but there is failed to have a good result from the early invasion
i answered at a which was proably an overplay, b was probably more sensible, but i wonder about the possible continuations from here.
Th

thanks for your ideas

'b' looks fine. If I was in Black's shoes, I would just ignore it and play the low Chinese with r9. That's just my way of play though.

As black, I'd probably take the corner, and treat a play on the left and on the right as miai. :b3: seems likely to prevent white from getting much of anything on the bottom, so if white builds a wall and then takes the right, you may be able to get in M3 and Q10, building a hefty framework.
Someday I want to be strong enough to earn KGS[-].

Would the iron pillar shape at K3 also be an option? My feeling is that it's probably sente because if white does not jump out his last move seems wasted. I'll get a thick bottom, sente and corner aji for later. :?:
While I was teaching the game to a friend of mine, my mother from the other room:
"Cutting? Killing? Poking out eyes? What the hell are you playing?"

It's ok but not great- imagine you had a stone at k3 instead of k4, and then w invades. Would you play iron pillar or jump up?

i just loooove this idea; i usually play the chinese, and tried the kobayashi to have a feeling for something different;
but here after completion of the chinese formation, the exchange 1-2-3-4 seems suboptimal for W (IMHO)

As for taking the corner, it would feel to me like a too early san-san invasion: it will be very cramped because of :w2:
but that is just my feeling (i actually did it later in the game but i a blank in the middle of the joseki and got myself killed :oops: )
