Hi there.

Post by MrPlatypus »

Well, I found myself playing Go as I was sick of Chess. It's not that I'm necessarily a bad Chess player, it's that I grew bored with the game and a lot of the egos that come with it. So I decided to play Go, won my first game today, and realized that yep, I'm hooked. So here I am introducing myself.

I would say I'm in the mid-low 20kyu range, and I tend to play on KGS as well, I have no over the board players to play with. As far as I know I'm one of the only people who play in this area, so finding another player is difficult at best. OTB or online, doesn't matter, as I'm shooting to get to at least 15kyu before the summer is over. Between here, a couple of other sites, and a lot of practice there is no reason I shouldn't be able to accomplish my task.

Anyway, it's nice to meet you all, and hopefully I'll see some of you across the board. :)

Hi and welcome. I also play on KGS (with the handle 'Hushfield'), so if you'd ever like to play a teaching game, just let me know. (You'd best use the L19 or KGS PM system for arranging this). Hope you grow to love the game as much as we do around here. Have fun.

Howdy, and welcome! If you would particularly like to find players near you, you can try http://www.igolocal.net/ , which exists for that purpose. Regardless, glad to have you on the forum!
Someday I want to be strong enough to earn KGS[-].

Welcome. I hope, over your stay here, that you don't come to find some of us as egotistical... :-)

Hello Mr.P! Welcome to L19!
I think you will find that there are still some egotists who play Go, but not as many as chess. Go tends to be a humbling experience, at least for the first 30 ranks or so. ;-)

The ego here I can handle, as at least most are willing to teach you a thing or two when it's all said and done. I've only encountered two players I wanted to pummel, but that's also because one thumped on me when I asked for teaching and review, and as soon as I mentioned it, they escaped the game. Free game or not, don't escape! It's bad form in my book.

But so far, from the greetings, and the readings, I think I'll be around here for a long time to come.

Thank you all for the welcomes. Nice board, with nice people, and if I stick around, I'm willing to bet my game will improve, and that's the objective. :D
