Re: L19 2011 tournament: PAIRINGS and RESULTS
TD's notes:
1) As soon as you have a time scheduled, please post it here. Some of us fans like to watch in real time, and some players like immediate post-mortem reviews.
2) Please don't play ahead. The pairings are ok if nobody drops out. But if someone does drop out, I may have to redo them. If I do, then I might have to vacate your win.
3) There is still a possibility for someone to enter late, especially if you are SDK. You probably would have to adopt Koroviev's loss and start in the lower bracket, but we can fit you in.
4) Again, to coordinate different timezones, see http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

Re: L19 2011 tournament: PAIRINGS and RESULTS
I think Perceval (tictac) and Iforgot to mention that we're playing our game today at 2 pm (CDT) or 9 Uhr (Schwyz). However, I just got word that he might be a little late, so we might not begin until 230 pm CDT.
Wish (one of) us luck!

w+61.5 in the jts-tictac match.
Thanks to perceval for a hard-fought game. To those who were wondering: no, I can't read a 6-move sequence

I'm just going to have to withdraw. Stuff keeps coming up preventing me from playing. I'm sorry.

Re: L19 2011 tournament: PAIRINGS and RESULTS
thanks to jts.
i'll be interested by any comments.
I was really happy with the fuseki. (in a omg i am not behind way).
Then there was a text book double attack, and even if jts let me save both groups the profit was giganormous.
Then i played for yose experience, hence the embarassing 60 pts defeat.
Edit:
@q10 was an adventure for me as i never played those kind of loose pincer before but i had wanted to try them for some time. Here i felt i sensed a trap of answering with
@O17 and then W right formation is impressive on the right after ie
@10.
Was this reasonning correct ?
in particular i regret
each time i see an open side (9 or more intersections) i split it. i begin to realize that it might not always be a good idea. i had several hints of that in the past but i hope this game will drive the point home.
overplay ? i missed jts continuation that built a ladder breaker on the right in sente
as the keima is cut anyway (ladder is broken) i tried another move than O6
no regret for that move but maybe i should ? I did read here up to the point were i get a turtle shell capture, but i am not sure if B is happy after
. Anyway during the game i was still happy here,
what do you think of the situation at this point (:b75:) ? sounds ok for B to me
still happy during the game...
i had forgotten about the right side.. or rather i thought it was ok with an eye and access to the center
@L9 maybe the move i regret the most: i read
@T15, i knew it works much better after i played s10, yet i added a move in the center. i think it eeither kill W or at least give me a ko or eye space
after
W has a very strong double attack that decided the game
Do you people agree that after
B is in very bad shape ?
:w142: i was waiting for :w142:@O5 to resign.
After my dragon lived i decided to play on but actually the game is lost W has made too much profit.
i thought i would be able to reduce the bottom much more thanks to B8-B9. also :b143: is too small.
should have resign here or after J14 even
i put more thought into that game than my usual and really enjoyed it. Thanks again jts !

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Re: L19 2011 tournament: PAIRINGS and RESULTS
By the way, if anyone finds it in their heart to review the game perceval and I played, I should note that (i) After move 142, I do play fairly cautiously on purpose, (ii) nonetheless, some of my moves really were blunders where the outcome of the more aggressive move was not in doubt (142, 200), so I welcome any criticisms where I imagined complications that didn't exist, and (iii) I'm sure there are other points in the endgame where I just couldn't find the right move, and I'd appreciate feedback on that (for example, I'm still not sure why B7 is better than D7).
I'm hugely enjoying the tournament. I've never played a game with such long time controls before, and it makes a big difference. (It may appear that I was playing fast, but I was actually thinking on b's time.) This was most clear when my 40 s byo-yomi periods felt like a huge burden - and I defy you to find any game I've ever played in the past where I was able to make myself think for 40 s for more than two moves in a row. That the spectators care about the result makes a huge difference as well, of course. Thanks to Joaz and others for organizing the tournament!

Is there an available spot for me? I missed your PM, since I didn't have computer access at the time, but if someone drops (like topaz?) I'd love to get another crack at Tabemasu.
